@kiaman29 what’s with this? Come on, Orr was a great talent, especially as a lead singer. But don’t disparage Ric. He was the Cars. He chose the members of frigging band and wrote the songs.
Back in 1979 I used to sneak into my big brother’s room and put this on his stereo with the headphones on! I would bask in their rock n’ roll glory until I was caught red-handed! The beatings were well worth it!
THey had great songs and Ben was a good vocalist; they played in an arena way back and the sound was terrible. Made me wonder at the time if their studio sound was not possible to reproduce live; sound pretty good here!
@dave30076 Ric wrote all the songs. When Ben sang a song it was because Ric thought the song needed a better voice and he gave it to Ben. They were a team. I doubt Ric was bored. It was just his style to stand back and look cool. Given how long and hard those two guys worked to get a successful band off the ground, I think Ric was thrilled to have Ben singing Bye Bye Love — one of their very best songs.
I use to cruise in a ‘78 Macho T/A Trans Am to this band……The cars Kick Ass!! and they are currently being used 3 national commercials right now because good music never goes out of style
Geez whenever I hear the Cars think of good friends and times back in 80’s in high school lol , thanks for the post , besides one few bands who sound just like their albulms/cd’s live saw them live back in 80’s
@drumdude1000 I’d never think of Nirvana when listening to The Cars. Sure they made some good music, but they’re no comparison at all. Two different genres, totally different styles and The Cars were far more successful through their career.
@DallasaDanny Totally. Drummer David Robinson was that way too. Nothing fancy, but unflinchingly on the mark . Very tasteful, economical playing going on. But still creative and cool. I don’t know how Nirvana was brought into the discussion-I was responding to somebody’s comment on left handed guitarists and Cobain’s name was mentioned.
@drumdude1000 EE was always underrated, as was their keyboardist. I think one thing that made The Cars such a success as a band is that none of them tried to steal the show or had over-sized egos that needed to be in the limelight all the time.
RIP Benjamin. This Band was a very big new wave success in late 70’s Early 80’s. When they were at their peak their concerts were packed with a lopsided ratio of girls to guys which was great for us single HSchool guys back then.

Where is this performance from. This is one of the better Cars songs by far.

When will this band be entered into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame?!?

@jk1802 I know…was thinking that Ric looked totally bored. Not aware of the history, but wondering if he was like that for any song that Ben sang.
could ric be any less interested in this song

Listen to this song, followed by Moving in Stereo and then All Mixed Up. They go together like one great song.
