hey the band is pretty damn great in general
jesus christ @1:12
Why cant music like this be as popular is the shitty pop and rap music of today? rock and roll is the best and always will be
Derek trucks is AMAZING
The man obviously had some of Duane’s spirit in him.
@cpignone, “target notes”?? “polished players”??? Are you serious!? If dereks “out of key notes” don’t move you then your not really hearing music mate. John Mayer my arse!!
MONSTER TONE
@shitoryu8 Yeah and Warren ain’t no slouch himself!
Catch videos of Derek at 11 and at 13 playing live. It will blow your mind!
@Eyesofthesouth333 He don’t need teenage pussy. His wife is awesome! Susan Tedeshi can outplay and out sing most blues players anywhere. Plus she’s damn fine! I can only imagine any kids they have with all that talent!
warren haynes is looking over saying to himself “god damn this kid is good”
1st time i watched derek and i am liking it !
Everyone please listen to this again and here how badass of a bass player Oteil Burbridge is. He compliments Dereks playing so well its awesome.
Derek trucks is one of the few great guitarist that have come out!! he truly makes me realize that there is still some great guitar players that have their old roots but throw a mondern twist!! amazing!!
@Eyesofthesouth333 lol, I still love john mayer though
Wow. Does it really matter? Trucks and Mayer are both better players than me. It’s just about taste and personal preference. It’s funny how we identify with our tastes as an extension of our “self”. When we do this, and some one says “I dont like what you like”, we get insulted by association. My mistake was posting my 2 cents which dont matter anyway. Enjoy your music the way you like it. Peace!
@cpignone To me Derek is the best guitar player on the planet these days. John Mayer just gets the attention because he’s a total showoff on stage, not to mention a total smartass. Derek is up there showing them the guitar, not his facial expression or movement all over the stage. Yes, he has hit a bit of bum notes before, but who hasn’t in the history of music. Yes, that includes John Mayer too.
@cpignone are you talking about like 2:48? those don’t sound like sour notes to me
Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi rocked the hell out of the Nateva Festival yesterday!
@cpignone cool.. I know about Joey D Ill check out his brother
I’m not saying that Derek isn’t good, he just doesn’t do it for me. When he is improvising with the slide in this video, he lands on a bunch of sour notes up near the 20+ frets, which makes me cringe a little. He does play some interesting stuff though. I’m not even really a JM fan. I just like his style a little more. My favs are SRV, Freddie King, Joe Bonamassa. Look up on YouTube a local PA guy by the name of Johnny DeFrancesco brother of the great jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco.
@Phishboy26 Derek to me is a solid all around guitar player.. John Mayers playing seems so restricted to just basic blues technique.. he shouldnt even be mentioned in some guitar discussions
@cpignone are you serious.. Derek Truck is way more polished than those sloppy blues licks he played with the trio.. get out of here… from technique to phrasing to execution.. John Mayer is barely better than average guitar players I see around
Mention Mayer with Buddy Guy, Clapton, and SRV. Derek is a pure guitarist. He only uses the overdrive of his amps. No pedals. He also doesnt use a pick or atleast ive never heard of him using one. Warren Haynes is a monster. He Is in his own league. His PAF tones and his soulful voice are what has kept me a fan for a long time. His work with his band Government Mule and early work with Coe turned him from just Warren Haynes to an icon in Blues and Southern Rock
Derek is good but he hits a lot of notes that aren’t even in the key of the song which kind of ruins it for me. Using out of key notes as passing tones is one thing but to land on them as target notes kills the line you are playing. John Mayer is actually a very very good guitar player and is much more polished than Derek. The problem with Mayer is that he doesn’t play the cool stuff like he did with the john mayer trio, he’d rather sell out to the radio-friendly crowd.
thank god finally a bunch a people who dislike mayer yo he’s way overrated just another white bread blues one a be
